Five New Year’s Resolutions We Might Keep

Go For A Long Walk

Whether you opt for a bracing coastal hike or a gentle meander through wintery woods, our patch of Cornwall has everything walkers of all inclinations could possibly want. Forget hibernation; January is a time to stretch your legs, shrug off those lingering hangovers and extra pounds, and dream of new adventures in the year ahead. After all, the best schemes are always hatched when going for a good stomp. And if your walk should lead you to the door of a rambling, cosy pub where you are guaranteed a friendly welcome, well who can resist…

Cut Down On (Some) Meat

We’re all hearing that we should be eating less meat, and at The Drifty we are totally on board with that. Our vegetarian and vegan options are expanding and updated regularly, giving you plenty of options should you choose to go cold turkey (pardon the pun!). Alternatively, if you’re taking the Flexitarian approach to your diet and including some meat, you should certainly consider eating more game. Locally sourced, high in iron and free from the evils of factory farming, game is a varied and versatile source of protein. We’ve also come up with some great beer matches to help you get the maximum enjoyment out of your reduced meat intake – click here.

Ditch The Gluten

Did you know that all of our beers made at The Driftwood Spars Brewery are gluten free? Find out more about how Head Brewer Pete first made a GF beer (‘Unexpected’) and then eliminated gluten in all our in-house beers here. As well as bottles, we have three dedicated gluten free beer lines, so we can serve our Cask Ales in the knowledge that there is no residual gluten in the lines. We are really proud to offer our customers so much choice in this area, so why not go ahead and try them all!

Cook Up A Storm

A great New Year’s resolution is to spend more time cooking and experiment with unfamiliar styles, dishes and ingredients. And one ingredient which could bring an instant new dimension to your cooking is, yes you guessed it, beer! Whether you use it to add an extra layer of richness to your meat reductions, or a delicate note to a herby fish sauce, beer has many surprising uses in the kitchen as well as keeping the chef hydrated… Keep an eye out on the blog for our helpful guide to cooking with beer coming soon, and don’t forget that for the next few weeks you can bring your home-cooked food right here to the pub to enjoy alongside a pint or two!

Shop Local

Supporting the community by buying from local businesses and small producers is a great resolution and one which will have a deep and lasting impact. This aspect of sustainability is at the heart of our approach to running the pub, where most of our food is of Cornish origin and many of our ales are from local breweries. The Driftwood beer has some of the lowest beer miles in the UK, as it is delivered across the road on foot with a trolley. So, if this is your New Year’s resolution, a visit to The Drifty for a pint ticks all the right boxes!

Good luck keeping your resolutions and we hope to see you soon…
