It’s not hard to ‘love where you live’ when that place happens to be here on the north Cornish coast! St Agnes is a pretty village with a surprising number of well-stocked local stores, surrounded by amazing scenery and beautiful coastline.

It’s a brilliant place for a rejuvenating break all year round, whether you’re dreaming of a good old-fashioned seaside break with the kids, or planning a walking holiday right on the South West Coast Path.

And, after days on the beach, mooching about the village, or hiking around Chapel Porth, head to The Drifty for a hearty meal packed with local produce, and a choice of handcrafted beers made right across the road at our microbrewery. Fall asleep in one of our comfortable B&B rooms to the sound of the waves breaking on the beach below – bliss!

We’ve put together a list of some village highlights not to be missed – all of which can easily be reached on foot from your base here at The Driftwood Spars.

St Agnes Museum

Open daily from 10.30 – 4.30, admission to this excellent local museum is free. A real ‘cabinet of curiosities’, the quirky collection sheds light on St Agnes’ rich mining and maritime past. You can also learn about local flora and fauna. Highly recommended!

Trunk Deli

Great for picnic bits (look out for our Cove cans!) but also mementos of your travels in the shape of artisan homeware and foodie gifts, Trunk Deli is packed to the rafters with local goodies.

St Agnes Garden of Rest

This large shady garden in the heart of the village is beautiful throughout the seasons, but it looks particularly stunning under a carpet of bluebells. Bring a book and a picnic for a few hours peace and quiet.

Churchtown Arts

Churchtown Arts is a bright little gallery in the centre of the village selling homeware, jewellery, pottery, original artwork, books and toys. Look out for local artwork by Celia Creeper – her joyful little prints feature in our rooms.

St Agnes Bakery

Our village bakery (the ovens have been on for over 100yrs!) is well-stocked with delicious sweet and savoury treats, and freshly made sandwiches. The pasties are legendary but the giant sausage rolls are probably what St Agnes Bakery is most famous for – if you’re heading off for a long walk we recommend stocking up here first!

Stippy Stappy

The famous stepped lane leading from the cove to the village is lined with picturesque cottages. These were once home to ship’s captains while their vessels took shelter in the bay below. It’s so pretty we named a beer after it!

More great local food and drink

(Not to mention brilliant small businesses to support!) With enough time here in ‘Aggie’, you might find yourself enjoying a pint at The Taphouse, a pizza at The Cornish Pizza Company, a coffee at The Sorting House or a cream tea at Cornwall Café. Also keep an eye out for food pop ups at The Night Hatch on Chapel Porth, and the MMI (The Miners and Mechanics Institute).
