Supporting Our Community: Our Chosen Charity for 2024

At The Driftwood Spars, our commitment to supporting the local community goes beyond serving scrumptious food and our small batch brews! Each year, we select a charity partner to rally behind, raising funds and awareness for causes that touch the lives of those in need. In 2022 we donated to The Mermaid Centre, supporting to fund a purpose-built diagnostic facility for breast cancer at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, and in 2023 fundraising was split between two local mental health and suicide prevention charities, Georgia’s Voice and Man Down Cornwall.

For 2024, we’re proud to announce that our chosen charity partner is Transformation Food Bank.

Transformation Food Bank is an organisation dedicated to providing vital support to individuals and families facing food insecurity. We believe that nobody should have to go hungry, which is why we’re thrilled to be donating any funds raised through our events this year to Transformation Food Bank to help make a difference in the lives of people in our local St. Agnes area and across Cornwall more widely.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Transformation Food Bank is its comprehensive approach to addressing the needs of the local community. Not only do they provide emergency food supplies through their foodbank, but they also offer toiletries and even pet food for those who are struggling to feed themselves, their families, and their beloved pets – find out more on their website.

With a simple foodbank voucher, individuals and families can receive enough food to sustain them for a week, offering a lifeline during challenging times. It’s heartwarming to know that such essential support is available right here in our community, and we’re honoured to be able to contribute to this cause.

Anna Corbett, Chief Executive at Transformation Food Bank said:

“We are absolutely delighted that the Driftwood Spars has chosen Transformation Food Bank as its charity for the year. We are currently seeing an ever-increasing number of people accessing our food bank and community hub services. The cost of living crisis has meant we are busier than ever, particularly with working adults and their families now needing our help. Louise and her team will be making a huge difference to the lives of people in our community. Being able to feed yourself and your family is so important as being hungry and going without food affects everyone’s physical and mental health. We really are so fortunate to have the support of the Driftwood Spars, and are immensely grateful to Louise, her staff and all their customers for all their hard work on our behalf.”

Choosing our charity partner is a collaborative effort here at The Driftwood Spars. Each year, our team comes together to brainstorm ideas and nominate organisations that resonate with us personally. After thoughtful consideration and discussion, we cast our votes to select the charity that will benefit from our fundraising efforts throughout the year.

Keep an eye out for our upcoming events and initiatives, where you can participate in fun-filled activities while supporting a worthy cause. As well as our fundraising events, 10p from every pint of our Driftwood Spars Brewery beer sold at the pub or through the brewery website goes towards our chosen charity at the end of each year. Together, we can make a meaningful impact and help ensure that nobody in our community has to face hunger alone.

Thank you to all our patrons and visitors for your continued support!
